1st Day
Trogir (Embarkation) – Island Šolta
A & B: aprx. 16 km, aprx. 300 m of elevation
Individual arrival to Trogir. After check in on the motor yacht between 2 and 2:30 pm, the first crossing to the Island of Šolta starts at 3 pm. Here we will start with our first tour, which leads us past kilometres of dry stone walls, numerous olive groves, locust bean and fig trees. Sage and rosemary line the hidden paths and are the basis for the honey from the local beekeeper Goran, who, with wit and charm, brings us closer to the importance of bee’s lives. Short trails lead down to the sea and back to the ship, where we spend the evening in a charming harbour town.
2nd Day Island Vis
A: aprx. 30 km, aprx. 900 m of elevation
B: aprx. 25 km, 670 m of elevation
Today we will first bike on a wide nature trail along the coast of Brač. We bike past fish farms, old submarine bunkers and secret coves. As we bike up the mountain ridge in the middle of the island, magnificent views of the neighbouring islands of Hvar, Vis and Šolta inspire us. On the descent, we have the choice between a technically challenging single trail or a wide gravel road with beautiful views of the mountainous mainland coast and the Cetina Canyon. Our descent takes us into the small village of Dol. After a cappuccino break, we continue in the direction of the charming harbour of Postira. With good weather conditions, we can enjoy one of the most amazing sunsets of the tour.
3rd Day Island Korčula: Vela Luka
A: aprx. 29 km, aprx.630 m of elevation
B: aprx. 28 km, aprx. 450 m of elevation
In the morning we cross over to the harbour of Vela Luka on the island of Korčula stopping for a swim from the boat if the weather permits. We have some great riding on the program today with both groups starting off together on the northern tip of the Island. From the harbour we pedal along some coastal trails before continuing along a mixture of asphalt and gravel roads to the historical archaeological site of Vela Spila, an incredible cave rock formation. Here we divide into two groups: one group can enjoy an urban trail back to the harbour, while the second group descends on gravel roads. Back at the harbour we can enjoy a short coffee break before continuing in two groups for one last trail session on the southern tip of the Island. After a successful descent we enjoy a celebratory dinner on board and spend the night in Vela Luka.
4th Day Island Hvar: City Hvar – Stari Grad
A: aprx. 30 km, aprx. 800 m of elevation
B: aprx. 21 km, aprx. 460 m of elevation
Arriving in the city of Hvar on the island of Hvar in the morning, we unload the bikes and start off on a great days biking. Our focus is to cross the island which we do on a variation of asphalt roads, undulating natural paths and gravel tracks. Along the way some great trail sections distract us from our uphill mission. Halfway across the island we enjoy a well-earned lunch at a local restaurant before reaching the highest point of the tour and choosing our descent down to the fruitful planes of Stari Grad where the boat awaits us in the harbor. The night is spent in the picturesque harbor town of Stari Grad.
5th Day Island Brač: Milna – Postira
A: aprx. 38 km, aprx. 1,000 m of elevation
B: aprx. 40 km, aprx. 910 m of elevation
Today features the longest trail of the week! During breakfast we cruise to the harbor of Milna on the Island of Brač where we unload the bikes and set off on our ride to the highest peak of the Adriatic islands. Our path leads us past olive groves, herb meadows and typical karstic formations such as sinkholes. The view from atop the 780 m high Vidova Gora is incredible. You can even have a look down on Bol and the iconic Zlatini Rat Beach - the Golden Horn. The descent into the valley starts out technical and becomes more flowy near the end on the Broken Glass trail. An alternative, less challenging path with incredible views can be taken also. Our destination is the seaside town of Postira where we spend the night.
6th Day City of Split: Marjan Park
A/B: aprx. 20 km, aprx. 300 m of elevation
After the biggest ride yesterday we enjoy a cruise to the city of Split in the morning. The old town of Split, built adjoining the famous palace of the Roman Caesar Diocletian, is a UNESCO world heritage site. Today we have the choice between relaxing at the beach or taking part in the bike tour through the Marjan Forrest Park in the heart of Split. A number of short but exciting trails riddle the park and make for a fun trail session. In the afternoon we can explore the bustling city of Split again together as one group. Overnight stay in Split.
7th Day
Split – Čiovo Island - Trogir
A: aprx. 21 km, aprx. 420 m of elevation
B: aprx. 24 km, aprx. 220 m of elevation
In the morning, we enjoy our last cruise back to Trogir. From here, we take the bikes across the local bridge to Čiovo Island where we get stuck into our last bike tour. Čiovo is a sea of flowers and the aromatic scent of wild herbs hangs in the air. Here we enjoy riding the local cross coutry trails before we split into two groups. One group can enjoy a refreshing swim in the ocean while the other group continue on some enduro lines on the island. Afterwards there is enough time in the afternoon to enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage city of Trogir before enjoying a festive last meal on board in the company of your fellow travellers and guides.
8th Day Trogir (Disembarkation)
Disembarkation after breakfast, i. e. around 9 am. Followed by an individual journey home or an extended stay in Croatia.

Important information

Spoken language

Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.

Itinerary changes

We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be run in reverse order. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.

Requirements

MTB-Level A: 3; MTB-Level B: 2

Moderate to challenging daily tours in hilly terrain. The terrain in this region is very diverse and changes from island to island: technical and demanding single trails alternate with wide gravel 4x4 roads and quiet asphalt stretches; there are very few unrideable sections along the way.

Each day you are able to decide between tour variation A and B.
Level A: up to aprx. 60 km/37.5 mi. and aprx. 1,000 m/3,280 ft. of elevation
Level B: up to aprx. 50 km/31 mi. and aprx. 600 m/1,970 ft. of elevation

Tour groups with less than 10 participants will be guided by one guide only. In this case, only one guided MTB level can be offered and the guide will do their best to customize this level to the abilities within the group.

Single-Trail Classification

To ensure that you are well prepared for your bike tour with Islandhopping and know what technical difficult level to expect, we have created a classification for all single trails that could be ridden on our tours. The difficulty levels included in our classification coincide with the Single Trail Scale which can be found here

Blue (easy, S0 – S1): small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, some erosion, gradients of up to 40 %, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, obstacles can be rolled over. Skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing.

Red (medium, S2): loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70 %, light hairpins. Constant readiness to brake, shift of centre weight to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, consistent body tension required.

Black (heavy, S3 – S5): blocked single trails, many large boulders, and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70 %, tight hairpins. Expert level of bike control/handling required.

Requirement to wear a helmet

Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours.

Gruppentempo

On our regular bike tours the riding pace is determined by the cyclists on regular bikes. We ask guests who have reserved an e-MTB to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and longer to climb the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Bringing private MTBs or e-MTBs

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. Islandhopping can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

Should you however wish to bring your own MTB with you, please make sure to check the condition of your breaks, gears, and tires and don’t forget to bring along a puncture repair kit and the essential spare parts for your bike (e.g. brake pads and tubes). Your bike should be in prefect mechanical working order.

Private e-MTBs can be brought along on our MTB SPECIAL tours for a handling fee of 50€/bike. Please be aware that e-bike batteries are not permitted on board of aeroplanes. If your mode of transport to your Islandhopping tour is by plane, and you wish to ride an e-MTB while on tour with us, please consider hiring one form our fleet.

Liability disclaimer: Radurlaub Zeitreisen GmbH. Will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling thereof.

Noise on board

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

Travel recommendation for groups with varying biking interests (MTB & hybrid cycling)

Our South Dalmatia MTB Standard tours, which offer MTB and hybrid bike tours parallel to each other on the same boat, are still available. These tours have a different itinerary to our MTB & Boat South Dalmatia Special tours and only provide one MTB riding level. This itinerary is perfect for travelers who wish to spend their holiday together, but do not share the same riding style.

Catering

The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. The catering consists of 2 x full board and 5 x half board. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.
